Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati has disclosed that he will issue a Statutory Instrument (SI) for the regulation of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector in an effort to contain bad behavior and irregularities by professionals at the end of this month.
Mr. Mutati says the Statutory Instrument is meant to ensure that ICT practitioners behave according to their ethics and standards.
Speaking when the newly elected National Executive for the Information and Communication Technology Association of Zambia (ICTAZ) paid a courtesy call on him at Maxwell House in Lusaka this morning, Mr. Mutati said ICT professionals must be regulated and issued with a membership certificates before they can practice.
He said any ICT practitioner who is not registered and cleared by relevant authorities, must not get employed as they need to meet minimum benchmarks set by the Statutory Instrument.
And Mr. Mutati has advised all ICTAZ members to focus on unity and working together to deliver local digital solutions to the nation.
Mr. Minister also congratulated the members for electing more women to the executive council.
And ICTAZ President Dr. Clement Sinyangwe disclosed that the new executive has operationalized the Ethics and Compliance Committee to ensure that all ICT practitioners work within the sector’s ethics and guidelines.
Dr. Sinyangwe said the committee will work hard to ensure that registered ICT practitioners are reminded of their obligations.
He revealed that ICTAZ is working to organise a meeting of ICT personnel at all levels to air out their views on challenges they are facing and what can be done to enhance their work.
