The Rural Electrification Authority Project which involved the construction of a 34 Kilowatts power Solar System to electrify the local Primary and Secondary Schools, a Rural Health Centre,a Market, and the surrounding community is expected to benefit a population of over 23,000 people.
Speaking during the Commissioning of the Project in Kalomo District , Southern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Yolanta Mutyambe said the Nkandanzovu project which commenced in 2023 is a clear demonstration of government’s commitment to explore and invest in other renewable energy sources apart from hydro power.
And Rural Electrification Authority Director of Engineering Services Eng. Alex Mbumba said the Authority is this year expected to undertake 143 projects and has set aside K92 million for 17 solar mini grid projects .
Meanwhile, Dudumwenzi Member of Parliament Edgar Sing’ombe has commended government for responding to one of the long awaited promises for the people of Nkandanzovu who have not had access to electricity.
The Traditional Leader believes that the new dawn government has addressed the energy challenges in Nkandanzovu area which has lagged behind in development.
Chief Chikanta says the provision of Electricity by the Rural Electrification Authority will help his subjects to venture in economic activities to improve their livelihoods.
