The Alliance for Accountability Advocates Zambia has urged President Hakainde Hichilema to expedite the enactment of the tobacco control bill which includes critical measures to restrict the advertising , promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products targeting children.
Alliance Programmes Officer Annie Kapolyo says the call to action by Health Minister Sylvia Masebo during the commemoration of the World No Tobacco Day of 2024, to protect youths and children from harmful products requires concerted efforts.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today, Ms Kapolyo said the Youth to action coalition and its partners Alliance for Accountability Advocates Zambia stands together with government to have a tobacco free Society.
Meanwhile, Zambia Media Network Against Tobacco Chairperson Paxina Phiri has noted the need to clear the notion that the tobacco control bill will ban tobacco production in Zambia saying it will control consumption to protect lives.
