Plant Breeder’s Right a crucial cornerstone for innovation and growth in Agriculture sector

Agriculture Institute of Zambia, President Kavwanga Yambayamba, has emphasized that the Plant Breeder’s Right is a crucial cornerstone for innovation, growth, and the future of the country’s agriculture sector.

Speaking at the Indaba Agricultural Policy Research Institute stakeholders meeting on the Plant Breeders Right Bill, Professor Yambayamba highlighted the importance of protecting breeders’ rights while safeguarding those of farmers through open and constructive discussions.

He stressed that such innovations are vital for adapting to the changing climate, improving crop yields, and ensuring good quality crops.

Professor Yambayamba further expalined that the Plant Breeder’s Right plays an essential role in encouraging the development of new and improved plant varieties.
