New HIV infections have decreased to 28,000

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in charge of technical services Kennedy Lishimpi has disclosed that new HIV infections have decreased to 28,000 from 33,000 infections recorded in 2022.

Dr Lishimpi says government has implemented measures to maintain the progress made in the HIV /AIDS response and 1.2 million people living with HIV are receiving treatment.

Speaking at the launch of people living with stigma index he notes that Zambia is on track to achieving locally adapted 95-95-95 targets having achieved 89-98-96.

Dr Lishimpi also stated that government is committed to increasing interventions to reduce stigma and discrimination in Zambia.

Meanwhile, Network of Zambian people living with HIV Board Chairperson Catharine Nswima has called for a multi faceted approach involving policy changes and community engagement to achieve meaningful progress in the fight against HIV related stigma and discrimination
