Speaking at a press briefing this afternoon, Minister of Health Elijah Muchima says this has been confirmed in postmortem examinations of the dogs and laboratory tests.
Dr. Muchima has also disclosed that his ministry and other stakeholders conducted sampling of 10 milling companies with 25 samples collected and 13 samples tested positive for Aflotoxin levels exceeding acceptable standards.
He says seizure notices have been issued to companies with contaminated mealie meal and some brands of the contaminated commodity have been recalled from the market to protect the lives of the people.
Dr. Muchima has expressed concern that Aflatoxin can cause cancer, acute liver damage among others especially in children and persons with underlying conditions.
Meanwhile, Dr. Muchima has disclosed that government is working to ensure that volunteers who worked during the Cholera outbreak are employed.
