Ministry of Education reaffirmed the process of reforming the curriculum is on course

Ministry of Education Director, Curriculum Development Centre, Dr. Charles Ndakala told the media that the Ministry embarked upon a process of reforming the curriculum and in December 2023, came up with a final draft of Zambia Education Curriculum Framework.

He said the final draft was submitted to Cabinet office for further scrutiny and approval.

Dr. Ndakala said the nation will be informed as soon as Cabinet finishes looking into the document.

Among the reforms contained in the 2023 curriculum, is the structural adjustment of the education system to now be aligned with the global world.

One of the proposals contained in the curriculum is a change from “Grades” to “Forms” and having learners to write their school certificate examination at the end of form four.

And Ministry of Education, Director Human Resource, Kasonde Mwila has said Government is looking at recruiting accountants in schools.

Mr. Kasonde said some schools already have accountants.

He said this is in order to increase inefficiency in accounting for the grants which schools receive.

Mr. Mwila also said government is not only looking at recruiting Accountants but procurement officers and Auditors as well.

And on newly recruited teachers, Mr. Mwila said most of them have reported and that the process of induction has taken place on various levels.

Meanwhile Mr. Mwila added that the recent recruitment had a condition that stated that transfers will only be considered after an officer has served in the station posted for a minimum of Four years.

The two were responding to questions from the media during a press briefing held by the Minister of Education, Hon. Douglas Syakalima, on Monday, May 13, 2024.

Mr. Syakalima held a press briefing where he announced that President Hakainde Hichilema had accepted to be the Champion of Foundational Learning (FL) in Africa.

The minister was flanked by various directors in the Ministry of Education.
