KAZA Member States Have An Obligation To Safeguard Natural Resources -HH

President Hakainde Hichilema says the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation area KAZA member states have an obligation to make decisions that will ensure the protection of their natural resource endowments especially in the face of the harsh realities of climate change.

President Hichilema says there is need for measures that will facilitate the growth and harnessing of natural resources for future generations.

Mr Hichilema said as a result of the worst drought the region has experienced in many years, life has become difficult for both human and animal life.

He said countries are now faced with food and electricity deficits owing to lack of water, a resource he described as a critical source of life.

Speaking last night during a state dinner in honour of Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba, Botswana’s vice President Slumber Tsogwane and Angola’s Minister of Tourism Marcio Daniel who are in the country for the KAZA Heads of State summit which opens in Livingstone today.

And President Mbumba said KAZA is an important Platform for the collective decisions and efforts aimed at ensuring the protection of natural resources for the benefit of people in the region.

Meanwhile, Botswana’s Vice President Slumber Tsogwane said there is need for KAZA member states to come together and find solutions to threats that confront their common destiny.
