Government Ready To End Poverty Through Environmental Conservation

KASEMPA District Commissioner Hyden Songezha says the government stands ready to end poverty through the enhancement of GEF ecosystem conservation and community livelihood projects in North Western province.

Mr Songezha said the government is implementing several measures aimed at reducing poverty levels in the districts while at the same time uplifting the living standards of the people.

Mr Songezha said this in a speech ready on his behalf by District Administrative Officer Francis Makanga in Kelongwa ward during the hand over of beehives and bean seed to smallholder farmers donated by Wuchi Wami organization to people of Kelongwa in Kasempa.

He cited the beekeeping, farming, and among others that promote environmental conservation and reduce pressure on forestry especially in Kasempa district.

Mr Songezha said social protection plays a vital role in protecting human development, reducing inequalities and advancing the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

“we attach great importance in having resilient communities that are able to withstand different shocks and vulnerabilities like in our district Kasempa,” he noted.

And Wuchi Wami Field Consultant Chipangile Musongole commended the Govenrment for reducing poverty levels by improving farming methods among Kelongwa communities.

Mr Musongole said Wuchi Wami is ready with KCFMA and is ready to continue with the long-term financing and creating revenue on sustainable management on KCFMA beyond 2024.

Mr Musongole said they will continue Strengthening of Climate Resilience in Agriculture, Livelihoods and forestry in which Wuchi Wami supplied 2,500 beehives and 240 packs of bean seed to Kelongwa small holder farmers.

Meanwhile, Acting District forestry Officer Kapatuka Nyirenda expressed satisfaction with the government’s focus on issues that affect forestry in Kasempa district as evidenced by the promotion of environmental conservation.

Mr Nyirenda said the introduction of modern beehives will not only enhance honey production but also reduce pressure on the forests in the district.
