FAWEZA Commemorates International Day of Persons with Disabilities with New Initiative for Inclusive Education

In recognition of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, FAWEZA joined the global community in celebrating this significant occasion under the theme: “Amplifying the leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.” The day served as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility to foster equity, inclusion, and empowerment for persons with disabilities, ensuring their full participation in shaping a sustainable future.

As part of its ongoing commitment to these values, FAWEZA has announced a groundbreaking initiative in collaboration with the MasterCard Foundation Bursary Program. A dedicated percentage of bursaries will now be reserved specifically for learners with disabilities. This initiative will cover full tuition, boarding, and the provision of assistive devices, among other critical resources, aimed at alleviating the significant challenges faced by persons with disabilities in accessing quality education.

In a statement, FAWEZA’s Executive Director, Constain Kanchele, emphasized that this bold step underscores the organization’s unwavering commitment to bridging the educational gap. “This initiative reaffirms our resolve to ensure that persons with disabilities have the same opportunities as others in accessing quality education that nurtures leadership and innovation,” said Kanchele.

The bursary program will target vulnerable learners, focusing on addressing the major obstacles that often hinder their educational progress, such as lack of accessibility, societal stigma, and financial constraints. By offering tailored support, FAWEZA seeks to create an inclusive environment where these challenges no longer stand in the way of their success.

Mr. Kanchele further explained that the allocation of these bursaries is part of the organization’s broader mission to “leave no one behind.” The initiative is designed to ensure that persons with disabilities are not excluded from the vision of a society where every individual, regardless of their circumstances, has equal opportunities to lead, learn, and thrive.

Through this bold new initiative, FAWEZA is paving the way for a more inclusive future, one where persons with disabilities are empowered to achieve their fullest potential.
