Comesa remains a major source of imports in Comesa region

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa China has remained one of the major sources of imports for the COMESA region commanding a market share of 19% of COMESA’s imports in 2023.

Speaking when she received credentials  from Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Hang Jin,COMESA Secretary General Chileshe Kapwepwe says    the value of imports from China increased by 1.8% from US$ 48 billion in 2022 to US$ 49 billion in 2023.

She says on the exports side, COMESA’s exports to China grew by 3% from USD 24 billion in 2022 to USD 25 billion in 2023.

Ms. Kapwepwe said the China export market accounted for 13% of COMESA’s global exports in 2023.

She said China’s leadership in areas such as renewable energy, climate change mitigation, infrastructure, ICT and sustainable development aligns closely with COMESA’s priorities and objectives.
