Chinese  investors inject over  3.5 billion dollars in Zambia ‘s mining sector

Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Han Jing says Chinese enterprises in Zambia have to date   invested over 3.5 billion dollars   in the mining sector contributing  nearly $300 million in tax revenue annually.

Mr. Jing says currently there are over 20 Chinese mining enterprises operating  in Zambia producing approximately 130,000 tons of copper concentrate, 250,000 tons of copper blisters and 50,000 tons of copper cathode every  year.

The Chinese Envoy  says  its member enterprises  contributed over 260 million US dollars in taxes in 2023, and offered employment to  more than 15,000 Zambians.

He said this during the launch of the  Chinese Mining Enterprises Association in Zambia under the theme “3 Million Tons of Copper – Chinese Enterprises in Action.

And Chinese Mining Enterprises Association in Zambia Chairperson  Li Zhanyan  says  the association   will work closely with the Chinese Embassy, the Zambian authoritiesand  industry associations to advance technological innovations in the mining sector to achieve the  3 million tonnes of  copper production  set  by  the UPND Administration.

Meanwhile, Ministry of  Mines and Mineral Development Director Planning  and Information Tobias Musonda  said  government is hopeful that  the efforts of the association will help  link  government institutions to Chinese  enterprises in order to  actualize its vision  of attaining  three million tonnes of copper by 2031.
