Beitcure Hospital launches expansion of children’s ward and 260 KWP solar system

The Ministry of Health says the expansion of the Beit Cure Hospital children’s Ward and the implementation of the solar energy initiative underscores commitment to enhancing access to quality health care for children.

Officiating at the launch Permanent Secretary for Technical Services in the Ministry of Health Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi says government is fully aware of the infrastructure gaps existing in certain health service areas that include child health.

He says prioritizing children’s health especially for children with disabilities, societies can create a healthier, more prosperous and equitable future for generation to come.

Dr. Lishimpi has disclosed that the newly extended children’s wing has been constructed at a total cost of $240,000 US Dollars with the facelift made possible through the generous support of Beit trust.

And Beit Cure Executive Director Frida Phiri says the expansion of the children’s ward will play a crucial role in patient care and comfort while the solar energy initiative will reduces the operational costs and provides continuous power supply.

She says the support will help reach children in some most undeserved communities in the country an allow the hospital to provide care to the children.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary Peter Mumba says the implementation of solar energy initiative with the battery storage of 250 KVA symbolizes Beitcure unwavering commitment to sustainability and resilience.

He has urged the health facilities in the country to follow suit by embracing renewable energy solutions towards environmental stewardship, reducing carbon footprint and safeguarding the wellbeing of future generation.

Speaking at the same event USAID/ Zambia Acting health Office Director Monica Bautista says the partnership between U.S government and Cure Zambia Hospital was made possible through the United States Agency for International Development American Schools and Hospitals Abroad Initiatives.

She says the US Government plays a vital role in mitigating climate change and addressing its impacts by working with partner countries to implement ambitious emissions reduction measures, protect critical ecosystems, transition to renewable energy, and build resilience against the impacts of climate change.

Ms. Bautista disclosed that says the United States Agency for International Development American Schools and Hospitals Abroad Initiatives has funded the newly installed 19 million kwacha solar energy system at Cure Zambia Hospital.
