Radiation assessment fee to be collected by ZRA on behalf of the Radiation Protection Authority

By shout zambia Apr19,2024

The Radiation Protection Authority is a regulatory body under the Ministry of Technology and Science. The Authority was established by the Ionising Radiation Protection Act No. 16 of 2005, as amended by the Ionising Radiation Act No. 19 of 2011.

The mandate of the authority is to protect the public, workers, and the environment from the hazards arising from the use of devices or materials capable of producing ionising radiation. One of the primary functions of the Authority is to undertake monitoring activities in any place or facility to ensure the adequate protection and safety of the public from sources and materials capable of emitting ionising radiation.

In this regard, the Zambian Government is committed to enhancing trade facilitation and ensuring the safety and protection of the public, workers, and the environment. In pursuit of these objectives, we are pleased to announce the transition of the Radiation assessment fee collection process to the Zambia Electronic Single Window (ZESW) system, through the Zambia Revenue Authority effective April 19th, 2024.

This transition aligns with the provisions of the World Trade Organization Trade Facilitation Agreement (WTO) ratified in December 2015, specifically Article 10.4 (Single Window). The Zambia Electronic Single Window serves as a centralized platform for trade-related activities, streamlining processes and promoting efficiency in cross-border trade.

In line with the WTO Trade Facilitation Order, the Radiation assessment fee will now be collected through the Single Payment Point under the Zambia Electronic Single Window system. We urge all stakeholders, including transporters, clearing agents, and the public whose businesses may be affected, to take note of this change.

Furthermore, it is important to highlight that the scope of goods subject to assessment has been expanded. Detailed information regarding the scope of goods can be accessed on the Radiation Protection Authority’s website at www.rpa.gov.zm.

The Radiation Protection Authority acknowledges the cooperation and understanding of all stakeholders in this transition. We remain committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and compliance in trade operations
