The Parliamentary Tobacco Control Caucus says there is need to demand for comprehensive tobacco control measures that prioritize prevention, protection, and Cessation of tobacco.
Caucus Vice Chairperson Brenda Nyirenda says stakeholders must call for stringent regulations on tobacco advertising, promotion, and sponsorship to shield the youth from the predatory tactics of the tobacco industry.
Ms Nyirenda who is also Lundazi Member of Parliament said tobacco use remains one of the gravest public health challenges claiming millions of lives and exerting a heavy toll on individuals, families, and economies worldwide.
Speaking when she officiated at the Meaningful Youth Engagement Workshop organised by Alliance for Accountability Advocates Zambia with support from Amref Health Africa , Ms Nyirenda also underscored the need to Invest in education, awareness, and cessation programs tailored to the unique needs and experiences of young people.
And Alliance for Accountability Advocates Zambia Executive Director Luchembe Chilufya called for the enactment of the tobacco control bill into law.
