Access To Information Coalition wants operationalization of ATI law

Access To Information Coalition has called for the operationalization of the ATI law through a statutory instrument to realize its potential.

Addressing the media, ATI Coalition Vice Chairperson Guess Nyirenda says without the necessary regulatory framework, operational mechanisms in place, the lofty ideals enshrined in the law remain elusive, and the rights of the citizens to access information are left unfulfilled.

Mr. Nyirenda says the consequences of the delay are far reaching.

He says the situation undermines public trust in government institutions, erodes confidence in the rule of law, and perpetuates a culture of secrecy and impunity.

Mr. Nyirenda says this deprives citizens of the tools they need to actively participate in decision-making processes hold their elected representatives accountable and advocate for their own interests and welfare.

“We shall continue to engage with government authorities to advocate for the expedited issuance of the statutory instrument”he said.

” We shall mobilize public support for the effective implementation of ATI, Nyirenda said”.

The Coalition has therefore called for all the stakeholders to work together in demanding the speedy operationalization and implementation of the ATI Law by the state.
