Blooming Chemical Industry limited has invested USD845 million for the construction of a fertilizer plant in Siavonga District of Southern Province.
The company aims to produce 520, 000 metric tonnes of urea and 300, 00 metric tonnes of synthetic ammonia as a by-product annually.
Commerce ,Trade and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga says the construction of the fertilizer plant will help the country save colossal sums of money that is channeled towards the importation of urea fertilizer.
Mr. Mulenga has since assured the fertilizer company of government’s support as it will be buying fertilizer from them.
Government and Blooming Chemical industry limited have also signed an investment promotion and protection agreement to set up the fertilizer plant.
And Blooming Chemical Industry Representative Cicy Sing says 70 percent of the employees will be local people.
Meanwhile, Zambia Development Agency Director General Albert Halwampa said the setting –up of the fertilizer plant is a huge milestone.
