Participatory Ecological Land Use Management Communications Manager Rabbeca Bota has underscored the importance of organic agriculture in view of climate change.

Speaking at the familiarization tour at Loctaguna Organic farm with journalists, Ms. Bota said climate change has had devastating impact in the agriculture sector and there is need for farmers to transition to organic farming.

She said this will ensure sustainability of the agriculture sector going forward in view of climate and called on journalists to play a pivotal role in disseminating information and promote organic agriculture.

She said this at Loctaguna Organics, an organic farm in New Kasama, Kafue district when PELUM Zambia, in collaboration with the Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture in Southern Africa, hosted a Food Jam event to familiarize journalists with organic farming methods in their quest to spread the word about the advantages of agroecology and organic agriculture as sustainable food production methods.

“We’re working closely with farmers, government, and stakeholders to create a sustainable food system,” Ms. Bota stated.

“Through this event, we aim to create awareness about the benefits of organic agriculture and agroecology,” Ms. Bota said.

She stressed that sustainable food production is key to ensuring food security, improving livelihoods, and protecting the environment.

“We think that organic agriculture is essential to guaranteeing food security, enhancing livelihoods, and safeguarding the environment.

” Through this Food Jam, we want to encourage journalists to share the story of sustainable agriculture and its impact on our communities.”

Meanwhile, Loctaguna Organic Farm Logistics and Soil Health Manager Patson Ncube said organic farming plays a critical role in preserving the soil and the environment and it is environmentally friendly.

“This event has enlightened us on the benefits of organic farming,” he stated. “As journalists we shall be committed to sharing this knowledge with our audiences.”

The Food Jam event is a component of PELUM Zambia’s initiatives to advance sustainable agricultural practices and agroecology in Zambia.

PELUM Zambia wants to transform people’s perceptions about food production by teaching journalists about organic farming.

In the ongoing efforts of Zambia to tackle issues of climate change, environmental degradation, and food insecurity, programs such as PELUM Zambia’s Food Jam are essential in advancing sustainable solutions.

Through promoting agroecology and helping organic producers, Zambia can guarantee a more sustainable and healthy future for its people.
