Senior chief Mboloma and chief Chembe of Luano District have appealed to government to provide transport for wildlife officers to enable them to fight poaching.

Both Chief Mboloma and Chembe observed that officers from the department of Wildlife depend on a vehicle from the department of Social Welfare to carry out operations in the District.

Chief Mboloma says the use of the vehicle belonging to the department of Social Welfare Development is causing confusion where locals run away thinking they are being pursued by wildlife officers even when they are being approached by officers from the department of Social Welfare for the Social Cash Transfer.

Chief Mboloma who also spoke on behalf of chief Chembe, when he met the Central Province Minister at Luano council, called for the need to address the problem by procuring a motor vehicle for the department of National Parks and Wildlife in the District.

“Our officers need a vehicle of their own to fight poaching in the district,” he said.

The traditional leader also bemoaned the poor state of road infrastructure in the district which affects transportation of agricultural produce.

“We need an improved road network to enhance socio economic activities,” he said.

Mr Nkulukusa promised to deliver the message regarding the procurement of a vehicle for wildlife officers to the relevant authority.

He underscored the government’s commitment to address the developmental needs of the people.
