Government has disclosed that it is the process of revising the national cooperatives act.
Minister of Small and medium Development Enterprise Elias Mubanga. He has urged financial institutions and the private sector to support and promote cooperative enterprises.
Minister of Small and medium Development Enterprise Elias Mubanga says it critical for such institutions to create an enabling environment through supportive policies, access to finance and capacity building initiatives.
Mr. Mubanga says cooperatives have been in the forefront of driving community development, creating jobs and fostering economic empowerment.
Speaking at the 102nd international cooperatives day Commemoration in Lusaka He also disclosed that government has initiated various programs that cooperatives should embrace that will address effects of drought in the 84 districts.
And Zambia Cooperatives Forum Ceasar Mukamphande appealed to government to help popularize provincial cooperative fund and put in place policies and strong legal framework to help build strong and viable cooperatives in the country.
